Explore Fort Santiago

The main entrance of Fort Santiago
Fort Santiago is an oldest Hispanic stone fortresses located in Northern part of the Walled City. It is across Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, Manila. The Philippines’ National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal was imprisoned in the fort before his putting to death in 1896. The final footsteps of Dr. Jose Rizal were representing the walk from his cell to the location of the actual execution.



 Here are the things to know about the Fort Santiago:

BALUARTILLO DE SAN FRANCISO JAVIER
It was built in 1663; Intramuros Visitors Center (IVC) is providing information for the visitors, a historical video of Intramuros and exhibit chambers.

SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
This is an old-fashioned chapel in the Reducto de San Francisco Javier, was constructed in 1773.

Plaza de Armas
RIZAL SHRINE
This is a museum where souvenir of Dr. Jose Rizal can be viewed. 

Rizal Shrine
ALMACENES REALES
This is used by colonial military forces during the Spanish, American and Japanese occupation but the building today was transformed into a new function area.

PARKS, PROMENADES AND PICNIC AREAS
You can stay this relaxing place to spend a spare time and strolling around the gardens of Plaza Moriones and the quiet greenery of Plaza de Armas.

El Filibustirismo
 BALUARTE DE SANTA BARBARA
This was built in the 16th century; it offers to the tourists to view of the colonial period strong hold.

Baluarte de Santa Barbara
Take a historical tour of Intramuros on a trancia; it is a replica of the pre-war Manila streetcars.

  1. I've been here in Manila since 2005 but I've never had the chance to visit Intramuros. Will probably find the time soon, hopefully I'll have a better camera by then.
